Airland Projects manages rail cars from China to Sierra Leone

Airland Projects A/S was recently contracted to provide logistics to move 600 iron ore rail wagons from China to Sierra Leone. With a total size of 110,000cbms and weight of 13820 tonnes it was necessary to contract five separate charter vessels to complete this movement in a small amount of time.

Airland staff were on site in China to coordinate the movement to port, customs clearance and staging/loading of the iron ore wagons.

In Sierra Leone, due to congestion in the main port of Freetown, Airland staff were on hand to unload the wagons onto offshore barges at sea to negate the need for calling the main port and saving considerable time and costs for the client in ensuring that their timeframes were achieved.

…and Ball Mills from South Africa to Egypt

Airland Projects are also contracted by a major European EPC Company to provide logistics solutions to an ongoing mine expansion project in Egypt.

Part of the scope of business was to develop a solution to move 528 tonnes of mill segments from Johannesburg; a critical item identified by the EPC required on site within a specific timeframe.

This involved cargo pieces up to 95 tonnes each with a diameter of 6.9 metres proving to be a logistical challenge for the road system in South Africa.

Prior to shipping, Airland had to co-ordinate many suppliers, special loading, off-site storage and heavy haulage transport on demanding deadlines to meet the clients need.

The trucking route to the port alone was over 1800 kilometres and the transport had to be carefully planned and monitored to meet the arranged charter vessel within the tight laycan provided.

To successfully execute this shipment, several Government Departments co-ordinated with our project team to ensure the cargo was delivered on time and safely at port.

The cargo was successfully received in port to meet the charter vessel arranged by Airland, it was delivered on time and within budget to the client.
