Heavy transformers travel through USA

BNSF Logistics, USA member to the Worlwide Project Consortium (WWPC), reports their BNSFL Rail Solution Team in Banning, California, recently handled the transport of three heavy and outsized Transformers, each 460,300 Lbs (abt 208,8 tons) / 30’6 x 12’6 x 15’10 feet (abt 9,33 x 3,84 x 4,60 meter), from the Port of Houston to North Liberty, Indiana.

The units were discharged off the MV Rickmers Hamburg directly on to rail cars and transported by rail to a rail siding 20 miles from the final destination.

It took the BNSFL team 12 days to trans-load the transformers from rail cars to transporter and delivery to the jobsite, including rough setting on their foundation.

The project was successfully completed on time and in budget.
